The first concert will be held on July 11 as part of the Music Mondays series.

Submission by the Wheaton Park District

A series of three free outdoor concerts held every Monday will start on July 11.

Music Mondays provide the perfect opportunity to enjoy live music in a comfortable refuge from the urban world at Memorial Park, 208 W. Union Ave. in Wheaton. It’s a spread-the-picnic-blanket-out kind of summer event.

The concerts will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on July 11, 18 and 25.

First up on July 11 is The Chicago Experience, a nine-piece band recreating the greatest hits of beloved rock ‘n roll group Chicago. The catalog is extensive, as Chicago is still touring, marking almost fifty years of music since their first album as The Chicago Transit Authority in 1967 and celebrating their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last April.

On July 18, the genre switches with Sistah Beth with Twist and the Groove Machine, a funky R&B, blues, and jazz ensemble with 125-plus years of combined musical experience. In the tradition of their genres, each of the band’s five members sports a nickname, from Timothy “Twist” Ferguson on vocals to Jeff “Muffinman” Ruffin on drums.

And on July 25, Libido Funk Circus take the stage to show off their repertoire of hundreds of dance and rock songs spanning the 1960s through today.

Music Mondays are free events supported by First Trust Portfolios L.P. All ages welcome. Concessions will be available. Guests are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Bench seating is first-come, first-served.
