From the urban hollers of Chicago were born The Hat Stretchers! They are a string band trio whose music will place you on the edge of a beat-up porch, as you swing your bare feet to the beat of their bygone sounds. The Hat Stretchers members are veterans of the Chicago acoustic music scene: Rick Cookin’ Sherry sings and plays guitar. John Hasbrouck plays left-handed banjo and mandolin. And Jon Williams plays fiddle...Music with crooked harmonies and foot stompin’ rhythms fueled by moonshine and the music of Charlie Poole, Uncle Dave Macon plus lesser known pioneers of primitive country music. It’s a hillbilly hollerin’ good time!

Rick “Cookin’” Sherry is well versed in many styles including blues, country, ragtime and hot jazz. He plays with the Scantified Grumblers and Devil In A Woodpile. His deep vocals compliment his music whether he plays guitar, scrapes a washboard, pounds a marching drum with a foot pedal, or whoops on his harmonica.

John Hasbrouck’s primary instruments are mandolin, banjo and guitar. He plays in Hardscrabble, a jug-less jug band, and The Northside Southpaws, an all-left-handed, all-resonator mandolin/guitar duo. He also teaches fingerstyle guitar and ragtime mandolin.

Multi-instrumentalist Jon Williams is leader of the Chandelier Swingers a five-piece Western Swing combo from Chicago, and plays with Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire.
