High Coronavirus Transmission Rate Reported In DuPage County

WHEATON, IL — DuPage County's coronavirus community transmission rate has been upgraded to "high," according to a recent update from DuPage County Health Department (DCHD). County health officials attribute the increase in coronavirus cases and hospitalizations to the "more contagious delta variant," according to the Aug. 5 update.

“Even with this concerning news of increased virus in our community, we know, based on our data, that the vaccine provides significant protection to eligible individuals," DCHD Executive Director Karen Ayala said in a news release. Ayala continued, "Therefore, we once again urge residents who are 12 years and older to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible to protect themselves and others against COVID-19 and the more dangerous delta variant."

In addition to urging residents get vaccinated against coronavirus, DCHD officials emphasized the importance of following the current mask-wearing recommendations laid out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). They also encouraged residents to get tested for coronavirus, especially if they have recently traveled or attended larger social gatherings.
