Latin Jazz Occurrence #5, which opens Friday, May 15 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm.
11 visual artists represent the Latin Jazz Occurrence. They are Lewis Achenbach (founder Jazz Occurrence, documentary painter), Renee Baker (graphic scores, CMOP Executive Director and Artistic Director/Music Director Chicago Modern Orchestra Project and, AACM), Douglas Ewart (sculpture, SAIC, AACM), Cameron Pfiffner, Lisa Flahive (live jazz painter), Jordi Pedrola (Barcelona, Spain), Spencer Hutchinson and Lara Oppenheimer (installation), Bob Stickloon (Pennsylvania), Perry Slade (photographer and JazzO alumni), Alberto Paniaya (Mexico City).

The exhibition opens on May 15th from 5 - 8 pm, music by James Sanders’ PROYECTO LIBRE (free project). During the opening reception, Achenbach will paint on canvasses placed around the band. Achenbach’s goal, he has said “Is to capture the frequency of the room through form and color and create an environment of complete freedom.”
The evening will be filmed by David Weathersby of SubVerse Studios (City Vanguard), recorded by David Zuchowski of DaverNoise, and photographed by artist Perry Slade.

Proyecto Libre is James Sanders’ ongoing collective that merges Afro-Latin folkloric traditions with Chicago-style free improvisation.
