Several Looting Attempts Thwarted In DuPage Co: Sheriff's Office
Justin Kmitch, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office, told Patch they expect the looting attempts to ramp up after dark.
DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — The DuPage County Sheriff's Office says it helped thwart several looting attempts throughout the county Sunday, including at Oak Brook Center, where Sheriff James Mendrick has been for most of the day. DuPage County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Justin Kmitch told Patch,"We expect those attempts to ramp up when the sun goes down, but we believe that we're ready."
Kmitch said that no curfew has been set and there have been no cases of multiple arrests in connection with Sunday's protests and unrest in the wake of George Floyd's death. Kmitch added, "Our deputies are spread far and wide tonight helping any municipalities that request help."
Earlier in the day, Sheriff Mendrick released a statement welcoming peaceful protests in DuPage County and denouncing criminal activity.
