Madison Elementary Celebrates Earth And Arbor Day

Madison Elementary Celebrates Earth and Arbor Day

On Friday, April 21, students at Madison Elementary celebrated both Earth Day and Arbor Day by planting two trees on school grounds. The trees were donated by the Morton Arboretum and the students learned about the importance of trees. Volunteers had a chance to help with the planting. Todd Jacobson, who is a Madison School parent and Head of Horticulture at the Morton Arboretum, arranged for this special event to take place. The Morton Arboretum also provided one coupon for a free admission to each student. Their mascot, Jumpy the Squirrel, visited and entertained the kids while they helped with the tree plantings.

All week long the students have been doing activities that celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day. The Conservation Committee students researched Earth Day along with the importance of trees and created a display for the school that was up throughout the week. They also made announcements about conservation tips each day. The students enjoyed planting the trees and creating the display that celebrated both Earth and Arbor Day!
