Man Accused Of Fleeing Cops, Possessing Cocaine In West Chicago
Police say Germaine Sharpe, 48, of Algonquin, fled a traffic stop in West Chicago early Saturday.

WEST CHICAGO, IL — An Algonquin man faces felony charges after police say he was caught in possession of cocaine after fleeing officers in Westmont Saturday.
Germaine Sharpe, 48, was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding a peace officer and possession of a controlled substance in connection with the incident.
Police say they pulled Sharpe over after he as clocked speeding at 62 mph in a zone with a speed limit of 45 mph. Sharpe, who had an active warrant for failure to appear in court, is accused of driving off down North Avenue after he was stopped.

According to police, officers pursued Sharpe until he hit a curb. He was taken into custody shortly after.
Police reported that Sharpe reached speeds as high as 80 mph while he was in a zone with a speed limit of 80 mph. Sharpe is also accused of having a half-gram of cocaine in his possession during the arrest.

Once again, a motorist who thought he could outrun the police now finds himself facing felony charges,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.
Berlin added, “In DuPage County, we will not sit idly by and allow irresponsible drivers to put innocent people at risk. This case again illustrates our unwavering commitment to removing dangerous drivers from our roads and holding them responsible for their alleged actions. I thank the West Chicago Police Department for their work on this case and for their continuing efforts in keeping our roadways safe."
Sharpe is scheduled to be arraigned at the DuPage County Courthouse on Sept. 18.
