Teen Charged With Murder in Brutal Glenbard West Grad Party Stabbing

He is also accused of stabbing the man's girlfriend. She is expected to recover.

An 18-year-old Glendale Heights man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of Tehavis Price of Aurora that occurred at a Glenbard West graduation party over the weekend, prosecutors said.

Bail was set at $3 million for Alberto Jimenez, of 547 Gregory Ave. in Glendale Heights, during a Tuesday hearing in DuPage County. He is accused of fatally stabbing Price, 19, and also accused of stabbing Price’s girlfriend, Verkita Vargas. Vargas is expected to recover.

Jimenez is accused of first stabbing Vargas as she sat in a vehicle outside the graduation party in the 2N300 block of Prairie Avenue in unincorporated Glen Ellyn at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office press release.

Price then got out of the car and approached Jimenez when Jimenez allegedly stabbed him several times in the upper body, prosecutors said. NBC Chicago reports Price was coming to the aid of his girlfriend, Vargas, when he was also attacked.

Vargas’ sister, who did not want to be named, threw the graduation party for her 18-year-old son and about 60 of his friends, the Daily Herald reports.

The suspect, who the sister said she knew, was intoxicated and confrontational when he arrived at the party and began “picking fights,” according to the article.

“I told him that this was not that kind of party, and if he needed to take some frustration out, he could take it down the road ... but not here,” she told the Daily Herald. “And he looked me in the eye, apologized and said he would never disrespect me or my home and that he would stop.”

Jimenez fled the party following the attack, prosecutors said. He was arrested without incident the following morning at a Hanover Park home. He has remained in custody at the DuPage County Jail since his arrest.

“I would like to express my condolences to all of the families involved. It is unfortunate that during a time of celebration, that this horrific incident occurred,” said DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba.

Jimenez is also charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery for his connection to the attack, prosecutors said. Jimenez’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 7.
