Man Sentenced For Kidnapping Of Wheaton College Student
Jeremy Jones and two other men allegedly forced the student to withdraw money from ATMs before releasing him.

GLEN ELLYN, IL – A former Elgin resident will serve a lengthy prison term for his role in the brazen kidnapping of a Wheaton College student in August 2016. Jeremy Jones, 25, of the 300 block of Washington Street in Elgin, was sentenced to 24 years in prison in connection with the kidnapping of the man who was simply leaving a Starbucks in Glen Ellyn on the morning of Aug. 26, 2016 when two men rushed him, told him they'd shoot him and forced him into an SUV.
The three men drove the student to several ATMs and ordered him to withdraw more than $1,500 from his account, authorities said. They then drove him to Chicago and at about 11:37 a.m. that same day, released him. The thieves left the student with $20 and his iPhone, police said. Upon his release, the student immediately called 911.
Prior to his sentencing on Friday, Jones entered a guilty plea to a charge of aggravated robbery, a Class 1 felony, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
