Man Who Sexually Assaulted Girl In West Chicago Gets 27 Years: PD

Police say the convicted child sex abuser has been at large since 2016.

WEST CHICAGO, IL — A West Chicago man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison after he was convicted of sexually assaulting a young girl "on multiple occasions," according to DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. Cesar Avalos, 42, was found guilty in absentia on three felony counts each of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and criminal sexual assault.

The charges against Avalos came after a young girl was hospitalized in early 2016 for an unrelated incident and told hospital personnel that Avalos had been sexually abusing her. According to police, Avalos sexually assaulted and abused the underage girl multiple times between July 2014 and October 2015.

Police arrested Avalos in 2016 and held him on $250,000 bond, but he bonded out and was released. Avalos then allegedly missed subsequent court dates, which led police to issue a $750,000 warrant for his arrest in October 2017.

Police later issued a no-bond warrant for Avalos's arrest in April 2018 and he remains at large.

At the sentencing, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said, "What Mr. Avalos did to his young victim is just sickening. While Mr. Avalos may believe that he will be able to skirt responsibility for what he did to his young victim, make no mistake, we will continue our efforts to locate him and hold him accountable."
