Most COVID-19 Cases Among Unvaccinated DuPage Co. Residents: DCHD
Since Dec. 2020, most COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in DuPage Co. have been among those who are not fully vaccinated, DCHD reports.
WHEATON, IL — Since Dec. 2020, the majority of coronavirus cases and related hospitalizations in DuPage County have been among residents who were not fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to data from DuPage County Health Department (DCHD). Unvaccinated persons have accounted for 96 percent of COVID-19 cases and 99 percent of coronavirus-linked hospitalizations in that time, DCHD reports.
These statistics prompted DCHD Executive Director Karen Ayala to again urge residents to get vaccinated against the virus. “With COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths occurring primarily in
unvaccinated persons, it is evident the vaccines are effective at preventing severe illness from COVID-19. COVID-19 vaccinations help keep our communities safe, our children in school, and protect those who are not yet eligible for vaccination," Ayala said.
