85 Coronavirus Cases Logged At Wheaton College Since Mid-August

Wheaton College saw a surge in daily new positive coronavirus cases among students after Labor Day weekend, according to its website.

WHEATON, IL — Wheaton College has seen 85 coronavirus cases among students since Aug. 14, according to the school's online COVID-19 dashboard. As of Wednesday, 15 students were in isolation due to coronavirus exposure, a decrease from Monday's 33 students in isolation.

Students returned to campus Aug. 19 and classes resumed Aug. 25. The COVID-19 dashboard indicates a surge in cases after Labor Day weekend.

As of Thursday, Wheaton College classifies its COVID-19 mitigation level as "medium." A medium mitigation level means students are still learning in person and grab and go food is optional at campus eateries. Vaccinated students are required to test for coronavirus weekly, whereas unvaccinated students must be tested for coronavirus if they have had close contact with an infected person.

Coronavirus vaccines are not required to attend Wheaton College as of Sept. 16. At this time, DuPage County's coronavirus transmission rate is designated as "high."

Patch reached out to a Wheaton College spokesperson for comment, but did not receive a response.
