Multiple Cases Of Identity Thefts Reported In Wheaton: Cops

Three Wheaton residents reported that they were recently victims of identity theft, police say.

WHEATON, IL — Three Wheaton residents recently reported that they had been victims of identity theft, according to police. The incidents, which seemed to target residents throughout the city, involved scammers using bank information and debit or credit cards to make purchases.

Police say a resident in the 800 block of N. Stoddard Ave. reported that someone had used their debit card information to make a purchase in Chicago. This incident reportedly took place at approximately 2 p.m. on Nov. 24, which was Black Friday.

Days later, a police summary shows that a resident in the 1900 block of Lancaster Lane made a similar report. This incident, which took place at approximately 3 p.m. on Nov. 27, involved the suspect(s) using the victim's bank account to make "several unauthorized transactions," the summary said.

Another resident, of the 1600 block of E. Willow, said someone made unauthorized purchases with their credit card. Police say these purchases took place between June 23 and Oct. 31.
