No One Injured in Wheaton Garage Fire
Fire officials believe the improper disposal of ashes from a fireplace caused the blaze.

Improper disposal of ashes from a fireplace may have caused a blaze in a Wheaton garage Saturday evening, fire officials said.
The Wheaton Fire Department was called to a structure fire at 1305 E. Buena Vista Drive at about 5:30 p.m., according to a city of Wheaton press release. Upon arrival, fire crews identified an attached garage for a single-family residence with heavy fire showing.
The fire was quickly extinguished and no one was injured in the blaze. The interior of the home sustained some smoke damage and the garage was heavily damaged by the fire, according to the news release.

Investigators from the Wheaton Fire Department conducted a fire investigation. The cause of the fire is deemed accidental and appears to have been related to improper disposal of ashes from a fireplace.

The City of Wheaton Building Department was called to the scene. The Wheaton Fire Department was also assisted on the scene by the Wheaton Police Department and several fire departments from neighboring communities. The property was released back to the owner.
