'Officer Werner Calling': Resident Gets Fake IRS Call
Cop impersonator threatens woman with immediate arrest if she doesn't pay up $896 in IRS scam call, Wheaton police say.
A caller posing as a police officer threatened a woman with arrest if she didn’t pay back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service.
The woman told police she received a call around 5:30 p.m. Jan. 26 from an “Officer Werner” who claimed to be from IRS. The caller told her that she made a mistake on her taxes and needed to pay $896 immediately or she would be arrested.
Police said the woman told Officer Werner to call her accountant and hung up on him, thinking it was a scam.

A Google search of the phone number revealed its recent addition to the IRS tax scam reports.
The woman did not send any money and was told to call the IRS Fraud Alert hotline.
