UPDATED: Crash Victim Injuries "Severe," Not Life-Threatening

A man involved in a head-on crash in Wheaton Wednesday afternoon sustains "severe" injuries, but is expected to survive, officials say.

The driver and passenger of the truck involved in a head-on collision with a Prius Wednesday afternoon have been treated and released from CDH with traumatic but treatable injuries, according to officials.

The man who was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital for injuries in a head-on crash on Roosevelt Road is expected to survive, officials said. He survived surgery last night and has "some severe traumatic injuries," but they are not life-threatening. The two passengers of the truck sustained "less serious" injuries that are not life-threatening, officials said.

Three people were hospitalized after a head-on crash of a Dodge truck and a Toyota Prius around 2:25 p.m. Wednesday, according to police. Police said the driver of the Prius was going east, and went over the double yellow line and struck the westbound Dodge head-on. The driver of the Toyota was alert and speaking as he was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital, police said. The two people in the truck were taken to Central DuPage Hospital.

Updated Wednesday, 5:58 p.m.:

According to MapQuest's traffic tracker, Roosevelt Road is clear after an accident earlier this afternoon. Crews worked for about two and a half hours to clear the roads and treat victims. According to the Daily Herald, at least one person was seriously injured in the crash.

Updated 4:53 p.m.:

Mapquest is estimating Roosevelt Road between Winfield Road and Hazelton Avenue will be closed until about 5:13 p.m. after an accident at Roosevelt and Shaffner roads around 2:25 p.m.

Roosevelt Road is currently closed between Winfield Road and Hazelton Avenue in Wheaton due to a car accident Wednesday afternoon, according to Mapquest.com.

The closure, which has completely shut down eastbound and westbound traffic, began at 2:23 p.m. and is expected to last until 4:12 p.m., Mapquest estimates.

According to a dispatch recieved by Patch at 2:31 p.m., a collision occurred at Roosevelt and Shaffner roads, and a helicopter was called in.
