Seniors, Long-Term Care Residents Get More Protections Under New Law

The law seeks to give more protections for seniors and long-term care facility residents in DuPage County.

WHEATON, IL — A new law hopes to further ensure the safety of senior citizens and residents who live in long-term care facilities in DuPage County.

Under the new law, long-term care facilities will receive the following information for potential employees who will seek to work in a health care or long-term care capacity with residents in DuPage County:

  • Criminal history in Illinois
  • Criminal history in other U.S. jurisdictions
  • Federal criminal history

“Seniors and residents of long-term care facilities are among our most vulnerable,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. “They rely on others for their personal safety and day-to-day needs and my office is 100 percent committed to safeguarding their well-being. This new legislation provides an extra layer of security for our seniors and for their families as well."
