Stepmom Who Spiked Baby's Bottle With Nail Polish Remover Gets 10-Year Sentence
Andrea Vazquez-Hernandez, 37, of the 600 block of Hearth Lane in Carol Stream, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

CAROL STREAM, IL — A woman convicted of pouring nail polish remover into her infant stepdaughter's milk because she wanted to "punish" her husband for an affair has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. Andrea Vazquez-Hernandez, 37, of the 600 block of Hearth Lane in Carol Stream, was found guilty of two counts of aggravated battery and one count of attempted aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to a child.
Police say on the night of May 29, 2016, Vazquez-Hernandez added about an inch of nail polish remover to a bottle prepared for the infant. When the child's father came home, he tried to feed the bottle to the girl, but she spat out the deadly mixture. Once the father realized what had happened he called the Carol Stream Police Department, who took Vazquez-Hernandez into custody after an investigation. She's been held at the DuPage County Jail on $250,000 since May.
In a statement, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said, "The very idea that anyone would purposely give a potentially deadly substance to an infant is shocking.”
