Teen Threatened To Kill Classmate, Said He Was Armed: Prosecutors

WHEATON, IL — A Glenbard North High School student faces felony charges after he was accused of threatening to kill a classmate and claiming to have weapons. Syed Haider, 18, of Hanover Park, was charged with felony disorderly conduct in connection with Monday's incident.

Prosecutors say that around 9:30 a.m. Haider approached a classmate in the bathroom and said he was armed and that he and his friends planned to kill the classmate and his friend in the school cafeteria. School authorities reported the incident to the Carol Stream Police Department and Haider was taken into custody later that day.

He is currently being held in DuPage County Jail on $15,000 bail.

“Any threat of violence to the well-being of our students, teachers and school personnel will be taken very seriously and anyone suspected of making a threat will be fully investigated and appropriately charged," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

Berlin added, "Students have got to understand that school threats are no joking matter and can have a chilling effect not just on students, teachers and staff, but also on parents, siblings and the entire community."

Haider's bond conditions prohibit him from being on the premises of any Glenbard District 87 schools.
