Neighbor News

#Top3Thursday at Wheaton Park District: November 3, 2016

Find out why bird's the word at Cosley Zoo, serve your neighbors, and shop for the holidays next week.

1. Bird's the word. Cosley Zoo (1356 N. Gary Ave.) is home to 31 species of feathered friends, from the Common Barn Owl to Hahn's Macaw, Northern Cardinal, and Sandhill Crane. On the Birds of Cosley Zoo Tour, Monday, November 7, 8:30-9:30A, learn the stories of these birds as you tour part of the facility with a zoo educator. You’ll even have the opportunity to meet one of the zoo’s animals up close during this special tour for active adults. Ages 18 and up. Register online.

2. Neighborly love. The Northern Illinois Food Bank serves 71,000 of our neighbors every week across 13 counties, right here in DuPage County and as far away as Stephenson and Kankakee Counties. Volunteers are a crucial part of its success; more than 134,000 volunteer hours were donated in 2015. You can join that tradition of engagement with Teen Services Series: Northern Illinois Food Bank, Thursday, November 10, 4-7:45P. As a team, you'll work in the warehouse on projects like sorting, evaluating, cleaning, and packaging donated and purchased food and nonfood product for distribution to the Food Bank's network partners and hungry neighbors. Ages 11-16. Meets at the Wheaton Park District Community Center (1777 S. Blanchard St.). Register online.

3. Buy at the bazaar. The dozen members of the DuPage County Historical Museum Guild have gathered around a table twice a month since last November, preparing handmade ornaments, wreaths, holiday gifts, and more for the 33rd Annual Museum Guild Bazaar on Saturday, November 12, 10A-3P at the DuPage County Historical Museum (102 E. Wesley St.). Shop local for the holidays and purchase handcrafted presents for family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues. Adult chorus Beyond Glee will sing carols 12-1P. Proceeds benefit the Museum. No registration required. Free admission. Cost of items varies.
