Transformer Fire In Winfield After High Winds Down Power Line
Police say a transformer caught fire after high winds blew down a power line near Roosevelt and Winfield.

WINFIELD, IL — High winds blew down a power line in Winfield early Tuesday, causing a transformer to catch fire. Roosevelt Road was closed to westbound traffic at Winfield Road for two hours as crews worked to put out the fire and clear the roadway.
According to Winfield Police Chief David Schar, police responded to reports of a transformer fire at 11:20 p.m. Schar told Patch the power pole had fallen on the north side of Roosevelt Road and west of Winfield.
Police halted westbound traffic amid until ComEd arrived at the scene to assess safety concerns. The intersection was reopened to westbound traffic at 1:20 a.m., police say.
