Trial Under Way for Man Charged in DUI Crash That Killed Warrenville Father
A bench trial resumes Wednesday for Omar Montoya Medina. He is accused of causing a crash that killed Antonio Alvarez.

A trial is underway this week for a 29-year-old West Chicago man accused of driving drunk two years ago and causing a crash that killed Antonio Alvarez, 37, of Warrenville.
Omar Montoya Medina, of 144 E. Pomeroy St. in West Chicago, is charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the Daily Herald.
Alvarez, a married father to two children, was traveling westb on Garys Mills Road in West Chicago and attempting to turn left onto Route 59 when Medina, who was traveling north on Route 59, crashed into Alvarez’s vehicle just after 11 p.m. on Dec. 5, 2014, according to authorities.

A crash investigator took the stand on Wednesday and testified that Medina was traveling at 90 to 100 mph when he broadsided Alvarez's car at the intersection of Route 59 and Gary Mills Road, according to the Daily Herald.
Both vehicles were on fire when police arrived at the scene. Medina and a passenger in his vehicle were taken to to Cadence Health/Central DuPage Hospital and suffered from burns and other injuries.

Alvarez was found dead at the scene.
Medina has told police he had just four beers--two of which were 32 ounces--in the hours before the crash, according to the Daily Herald. Police said Medina’s blood alcohol content was .16, which is twice the legal limit of .08.
Medina's bench trial is set to resume at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Daily Herald.
