'Unattended Cooking' To Blame For House Fire In Wheaton: FD

Wheaton fire officials say one person safely escaped a fire that broke out in the 200 block of South Prospect.

WHEATON, IL — Fire officials say "unattended cooking activities" are to blame for a fire that broke out in the 200 block of South Prospect in Wheaton Dec. 29.

Firefighters arrived at the single-family home around 8:30 p.m. to find fire in the kitchen that was spreading to the second floor. The person who had been inside the house got out safely, but was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated smoke exposure.

The fire was contained within minutes, according to a news release. Due to the damage, the resident was displaced from their home.
