WHEATON, IL — Wheaton police say vandals recently spray painted inappropriate words and images throughout multiple park district properties, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

Red spray paint was used to deface trees, porta-potties, pathways, structures and other surfaces. In total, the vandalism caused more than $5,000 in damage to the Wheaton Park District, which constitutes a felony.

As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, Wheaton police had not immediately responded to Patch's request for additional information about where and when the incidents took place and the nature of the inappropriate images and phrases.
