Warrenville Road Closure Expected Thursday as Bridge Removal Begins

The Warrenville Road Bridge over the West Branch DuPage River will be closed beginning Thursday.

The DuPage County Division of Transportation provided the following press release.

DuPage County Division of Transportation announces that the Warrenville Road Bridge over the West Branch DuPage River will be closed beginning Thursday, May 21.

The closure will be in effect through the end of November while construction crews replace the bridge.

At the same time, Warrenville Road will be closed to thru-traffic between River Road and Winfield Road.

However, Warrenville road will be open to local traffic and businesses. During construction, thru traffic will be detoured using River Road, Ferry Road and Winfield Road. Signs will be posted directing traffic along the proposed detour route.

The scope of the project includes:

  • Removal of the existing four-lane bridge, which currently has load-weight restrictions;
  • Construction of a three-lane bridge that will include two westbound lanes and one eastbound lane;
  • Roadway reconstruction and drainage improvements;
  • Construction of a bike path along the south side of Warrenville Road between the bridge and Winfield Road; and
  • Aesthetic features on the bridge that will include decorative concrete railings and lighting.
