Wheaton Accepting Applications For Citizens' Police Academy

WHEATON, IL — The Wheaton Police Department is now accepting applications for its annual Citizens' Police Academy. Residents can apply for the academy through Feb. 14 for a chance to learn about the inner workings of the city's police force.

Classes for the Citizens' Police Academy will be held on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. starting April 7. The program, which will be conducted at the Wheaton Police Department and surrounding locations, runs through June 9.

The free classes will include classroom lectures, in addition to hands-on exercises that immerse residents in the life of a Wheaton police officer. The topics covered will range from traffic stops to forensics investigations and critical incident responses.

To be eligible to take part in the Wheaton Citizens' Police Academy, you must be 21 or older and live or work in Wheaton. Only 20 applicants will be picked to take part in the program and chosen applicants will find out by March 17 if they made the cut.
