WHEATON — The Wheaton City Council will meet on July 1 to consider a potential appointment to fill the North District seat left when former council member Philip J. Suess was elected mayor. At the meeting, council members may choose to appoint Christopher J. Zaruba, who was chosen from a field of applicants seeking Suess's vacant seat.

Zaruba practices family law in Wheaton. He has worked with the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office and the DuPage County Bar Association, according to his attorney bio. His father is former DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba.

In a news release, city officials said Mayor Suess and Wheaton City Council members were " very impressed with the number and qualifications of residents who applied for this appointment." If Zaruba's appointment is approved, he will serve a two-year appointment that expires in May 2021.
