Wheaton Cops Arrest Bank Robber Wanted Since 2018

Police have been looking for him since he was accused of robbing a bank in 2018.

WHEATON, IL -- A bank robber who has been wanted since 2018 in connection with the robbery of a Wheaton Chase Bank was taken into custody in mid-March after members of the public reportedly helped Wheaton Police track him down. Timothy Bender, 65, of Harvard, has been charged with bank robbery in connection with the 2018 incident.

After Bender was arrested in Wheaton on March 14, 2019, he was taken to DuPage County Jail and then put into the custody of the FBI, who filed the formal bank robbery charges.

Wheaton police thanked the Lombard Police Department and members of the public for their help in finding Bender.

Wheaton Police Chief Bill Murphy said in a statement, "Mr. Bender’s identification and arrest were only possible with the assistance of our community and the diligent investigation of the FBI and the detectives of the Wheaton Police Department. This was a perfect example of community policing in action."
