Wheaton To Dedicate WWI Obelisk On Veterans Day

Wheaton Park District will dedicate a new WWI obelisk at Northside Park on Nov. 11.

WHEATON, IL — The Wheaton Park District will dedicate a new obelisk on Veterans Day that was built to honor the memory of soldiers who served in World War I. The stone obelisk stands near the entrance to Northside Park at 1300 N. West St.

The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11 and is expected to last until around 10:30, according to the Wheaton Park District's website. Veterans Day events will continue throughout the day.

At 10:50 a.m., the Wheaton American Legion will conduct a Veterans Day ceremony at Memorial Park at 208 W. Union Ave. This ceremony will also be open to the public.

Later in the day, DuPage County Historical Museum will host Songs of World War I. The free, all-ages event is a great opportunity for children to learn about some of the patriotic music soldiers used to rally their efforts during the war. The History Singers will perform both American and British songs from the World War I era. Songs of World War I begins at 3 p.m. at 102 E. Wesley St.
