Wheaton House Fire Sends 2 To Hospital
Fire officials say the blaze may have been caused by a faulty extension cord.

WHEATON, IL — Fire officials responded to a blaze that broke out around 6:30 p.m. Monday in a home in Wheaton. The fire consumed a house in the first block of Danada Drive and sent two residents to a nearby hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
Heavy smoke was coming from the home's second-floor window when fire crews arrived at the scene, according to a news release. Fire officials say the home's residents were alerted by a smoke detector and everyone was able to escape the fire
The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes and the Wheaton Fire Department and DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force ruled that it was likely not suspicious. The exact cause has not been determined, but investigators say it may be linked to a faulty extension cord in the home.
