WHEATON, IL — A Wheaton man was arrested Friday after police say he failed to register as a sex offender and was living within 500 feet of a school.

Eric T. Morton, 47, of the first block of Sterling Circle, was charged with failure to register as a sex offender and presence in a school zone by a child sex offender in connection with the incident. Police say Morton is currently registered as living in Greenwood Mississippi, where he was registered for committing criminal sexual abuse of a victim between the ages of 13 and 16 years old.

“I would like to thank the Leflore County Sheriff’s Office (Mississippi), DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin's Office and our detectives for their actions in holding a registered child sex offender accountable," Wheaton Police Chief Bill Murphy said in a news release. "Their combined efforts enhanced the safety of our community.”
