Girls Hoops: Wheaton North Beats West Chicago 66-64

Falcons edge West Chicago Thursday.

The Wheaton North girls basketball team defeated West Chicago in a 3-point shooting fest Thursday.

Just when it looked like West Chicago Senior Claire Monroe (28 points) was going to secure a victory by hitting one 3-pointer after another, Wheaton North Senior, Maddie Baillie (19 points) answered with her own 3-point hits to lead the Falcons to a 66-64 upset win. Junior Mandy Traversa (14 points) also helped from beyond the arc, and Sophomore Chrissy Baird claimed inside play with 14 points and 16 rebounds.

The return of Brooke Schanowski (ankle injury) in the second quarter proved to be a key to the momentum change with her defensive play holding Monroe to only 3 points, along with Freshman Emari Jones. Wheaton North’s 6–foot 4–inch Senior Samantha Kullman did her part to close down any inside options for West Chicago.
