Wheaton North Boys Lax Continues to Give Back

Philanthropy

Last night was a big night for this year’s Wheaton North Falcon Boys as it is signup night. This current group and incoming freshman were all excited about the prospects for this year’s teams. Long before this evening, however, this team was getting together as a team but making plays for the community.

As we are all well aware, sports activities seem to take up a great deal of our time. We hear about games won and lost and injuries that kids receive playing these sports. What we don’t always hear about though is the philanthropic side to the sports stars.

In Wheaton, Illinois, there are typically many philanthropists of all ages and backgrounds. It is nice, however, when we hear about sports teams that do their best for the people in their communities that can use an extra hand.

Tuesday, December 27th, several young men from the Team, organized by Drew Stoneburner, gathered together and arrived at the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans with gifts and donations in hand. Several area businesses donated gift cards and certificates, including: Ultra Foods, Village Market, Jewel-Osco (Northside location) as well as Home Depot. One small business, Time To Care (elderly care) made it a point to donate a new microwave and pots-and-pans set and then the boys and coaches did the rest.

There were gift cards of all varieties, office supplies, a table and chair set, coffeemaker, shelves and a lamp (donated by the Richardson family), slippers, undergarments, more pots-and-pans, a knife block and sheet sets. These boys really did their very best for the men and women at the shelter and in the long-term housing as well as veterans in need of these items!

It was worth the effort of the Kowert, Pierropoulos, Kim, Parker, Thompson, Richardson, Blum, Aguiar, Fleps and Stoneburner families in addition to Coach Aaron Vermedal to see the faces of the veterans present to accept the donations at the main house. The boys learned that night that this is what true teamwork really involves.

What is even better is that you have not seen the last of these boys in the Wheaton community as they always participate with Feed My Starving Children and R33M. It will be exciting to see how these boys do this season on and off the field!
