Wheaton Students Named Good Citizens For Acts Of 'Selflessness'
The city honored groups, students, and adults who have made a difference in the community.
WHEATON, IL — The City of Wheaton recently recognized several local students as Good Citizens of 2019. The awards were given to groups, students, and adults who impacted the community with "acts of selflessness, generosity, and service."
The Wheaton Good Citizens of 2019 were selected by the city's Community Relations Commission and honored in a special ceremony during Monday's Village meeting.
Five students local students received the good citizen award for their leadership and community service in and out of school.

Selam Kahsay, who attends Wheaton North High School, was recognized for their involvement in the high school's speech and track and field teams, Key Club, Pep Club, and Science Club. Kahsay was also honored for their "extensive contributions to St. Michael Ethiopian Orthodox Church."
Karissa Paulsen, a student at Wheaton Warrenville South High School, was named good citizen for her involvement in school activities and for "participating in many community service events." Paulsen is also a member of Wheaton Warrenville South's technical theater and National Honor Society.

Jenna Kortenhoeven received recognition for "leadership and service to others as a peer mentor for the special education program." Kortenhoeven, who attends Wheaton North High School, is also involved in the school's Link Crew and FLOCK Club.
Wheaton Academy Student Emma Goebel was awarded Good Citizen of 2019 for "her service to families in the area through Replanted Ministry’s work assisting foster and adoptive children, the Puente del Pueblo program, teaching youth soccer camp and more."
Emma Armbrust, a student a St. Francis High School, was honored for "her leadership and community service in school and extracurricular activities." Armbrust is involved in the school's soccer team and Student Ambassador Leadership Team. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.
