Worker Killed When Air Tank Explodes in Carol Stream

A 35-year-old Elgin man is dead after the machinery he was working on at MAAC Machinery, 590 Tower Blvd. in Carol Stream, exploded on Monday night, according to the Daily Herald.

Chad Nelson had been welding on metal machinery when a 200-gallon air tank, which was being tested for leaks, exploded, Suburban Life Publications reports.

The explosion occurred at 9:30 p.m. Monday and Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:17 p.m., according to the article.

An investigation into the explosion is underway and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was on the scene Tuesday, the Daily Herald reports.
