After Changing Home Address, ID Thief Orders Checks: Wilmette Crimes

Wilmette Police Blotter: Aug. 15 - Aug. 28

WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those recently arrested. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges are often dropped or reduced. Everyone is innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

THEFT

A bicyclist in the first block of Harbor Drive reported having left his bike unlocked on the bike rack near the Coast Guard station between 1:10 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on Aug. 16. When he returned, his bike was gone, he told police.

A resident in the 700 block of 12th Street reported that sometime between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Aug. 16, someone opened up an account using the residents name in Ohio. The company was contacted and closed the account. There was no immediate reported loss.

COUNTERFEIT CASH

On Aug. 17 between 7:45 p.m. and 7:50 p.m. two men bought items at a sandwich shop in the 3500 block of Lake Avenue using two counterfeit $100 bills. The store reported a loss of $160 from the incident.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

On Aug. 19 at 12:49 a.m., an officer on patrol noticed fresh damage to the political display in the front yard of a home in the 600 block of Lake Avenue. Upon closer inspection, the officer smelled fresh spray paint and made contact with the homeowner. The resident confirmed the display had been spray painted and the floodlights damaged within the past 15 to 20 minutes.

THEFT

On Aug. 20, a Wilmette resident told police that someone stole an unlocked bike from an alley behind a pizzeria and wine bar in the 1100 block of Central Avenue between 4:15 p.m. and 9 p.m. and may have been caught on security cameras.

ATTEMPTED THEFT

On Aug. 21 at noon, a Kenilworth juvenile reported that someone tried to steal his bike. The unidentified person asked that the juvenile and his brother move their bikes that had been locked to the bike rack. When the brother moved his bike the person sat on the bike, but when the brother yelled it was his bike, the attempted theft said it had been a mistake and rode away on another nearby bike.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Someone spray painted an image of male genitalia in orange on the north side of the building at the Central School, 910 Central Ave., between 5 p.m. on Aug. 18 and 11:50 a.m. on Aug. 21.

THEFT

An officer on patrol noticed someone had stolen the "Blackhawk" street sign from the intersection of Blackhawk and Seminole roads shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 22.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident in the 2200 block of Birchwood Avenue reported that someone opened three credit cards using his personal information. About $3,300 had been charged to a Menards credit card and the resident said he wanted to sign a complaint if the thief is found.

THEFT

A resident in the 2800 block of Old Glenview Road reported that he noticed a new Bank of America credit card he had just received in the mail was missing after he had his apartment cleaned. While taking the report on the morning of Aug. 25, police learned that the man had had three fraudulent charges to the iTunes store made to his previous Bank of America credit card in July and August.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident of the 1700 block of Central Avenue contacted his banks and police after his monthly statements stopped arriving. Sometime between Aug. 17 and Aug. 23, he learned that his address had been updated through the US Postal Service and that a shipment of checks he had been expecting to receive had instead been mailed to an address in Indianapolis, Indiana.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident of the 1000 block of Ridge Road reported on Aug. 21 that someone had used his personal information in an unsuccessful attempt to open up a line of credit with Room Place.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident of the 300 block of Central Avenue reported nine fraudulent charges had been made to her North Shore Community Bank credit card in June 2017, including three charges made to Allegiant Airlines for a flight from Orlando, Florida, to St. Louis, Missouri.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident of the 300 block of Hibbard Road reported that someone used personal information in an unsuccessful attempt to open up various lines of credit.

ARRESTS

NO LICENSE

A 29-year-old Kenosha, Wisconsin man was arrested Aug. 15 at 4:39 p.m. in the 1600 block of Lake Avenue after cops investigated an accident and discovered one of the drivers involved did not have a valid driver's license.

THEFT

Israel Maisonet, 19, of the 6000 block of West North Avenue in Chicago, was arrested shortly before 8 p.m. on Aug. 16. Police said he was found to be in possession of the bicycle reported stolen from the Coast Guard station on the first block of Harbor Drive earlier that day.

BATTERY

Ryan E. Beberdick, 22, of the 2100 block of Birchwood Avenue, was arrested on Aug. 18 after he turned himself in to Wilmette police. Police said they had received a complaint against him relating to an incident that took place June 30 in the 1900 block of Highland Avenue.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

A 22-year-old Chicago man was pulled over for traffic violations, found to be driving on a suspended license and arrested in the 100 block of Green Bay Road on Aug. 27 at 9:26 a.m.

DUI

Judd J. Hackl, 42, of the 1000 block of Woodlawn Road in Glenview, was arrested on Aug. 27 at 10:55 p.m. in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue. Police said the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath after he was pulled over for a traffic offense, he failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody.
