Kenilworth Offers Special Brush Pickup After Storm, Ahead Of More Severe Weather

The village said storm-damaged brush will be collected through Monday, June 15, with more severe weather possible.

KENILWORTH, IL — Kenilworth is offering a special brush collection beginning today and continuing through next Monday, after trees were impacted by yesterday's storm and with more severe weather in the forecast.

According to the village, residents should "attempt to neatly bundle the brush in the parkway, ends sticking out towards the street, so that they do not fall onto the street." The village asked residents with tree limbs to place them on their parkway by 8 a.m. on June 15.

The National Weather Service is forecasting strong storms this afternoon and evening, expected in multiple waves beginning at 11:00 a.m. Potential severe weather threats include destructive hail, strong winds, and tornadoes.

The village also issued several safety reminders tied to the approaching weather. It said there is "a high probability of tree limbs or full trees falling" during strong storms and told residents, "Do not attempt to remove fallen branches or trees from roadways and public spaces."

Residents were also advised to stay inside once storms begin and avoid unnecessary travel. In advance of the storm, the village said outdoor furniture, trampolines and other loose items should be tied down. During and after a storm, residents should watch for road debris and standing water and avoid driving over debris or through flooded areas because that can damage or disable a vehicle.

The village also warned residents not to enter flooded basements "due to a risk of electrocution." For power outages, the notice says residents should not call 911. Instead, outages should be reported directly to ComEd through the ComEd mobile app, by texting OUT to 26633, by calling 1-800-EDISON-1, or through ComEd's website.

In the event of a tornado, the village said an interior room or basement is the safest location. If a tornado warning is issued, residents are told to stay in place until the all-clear is received.
