πŸ“° News we're reading

β€’ Wilmette Safety Committee To Discuss Flock Camera Contract Renewal (patch.com) β€” Wilmette residents will soon see village officials debate whether to renew the contract for the 22 Flock automated license plate reader cameras currently used by local police. The Public Safety Committee will review privacy safeguards, data-sharing limits, and crime-fighting benefits at meetings in September and October before making a recommendation to the Village Board in November. Officials emphasize that Wilmette's system avoids federal access, limits data retention, and is not used for traffic or reproductive health enforcement.

β€’ Lake Avenue project still in motion with construction still down the road (therecordnorthshore.org) β€” Wilmette's long-planned Lake Avenue overhaul is moving into detailed design after trustees approved more than $550,000 for Phase II engineering, building on a $5 million grant. The project will add bike lanes, safer crossings, pavement rehab, and water main work between Green Bay and Sheridan, with water infrastructure construction slated for 2028 and federally funded roadwork starting in 2029.
