Blackhawk Road Street Sign Stolen After Team's Stanley Cup Win

Another attempted similar incident was thwarted by an officer's presence.

Vandalism in Wilmette was mostly limited last Monday, the night the Chicago Blackhawks clinched their third Stanley Cup in six years.

Police reported two incidents of vandals attempting to steal the street sign blocks away from each other - one of them successful, the Wilmette Life reports.

An officer patrolling Blackhawk Road near Locust Road around 10 p.m. that night observed a man with a youth on his shoulder trying to pull the street sign from the light pole at the intersection, but the would-be thieves noticed the officer and fled before they could be apprehended.

But a few minutes later, the same officer noticed the Blackhawk Road sign at the Seneca Road intersection off its pole.
