In 2006, when Patricia Mejía moved from Mexico City to Evanston, Illinois, she promptly fell in love with the area’s rich architectural legacy and the vibrant cultural life of the community. Concerned that Evanston is losing parts of its historical tradition to modern-day developments, Patricia became determined to capture in paint many of the area’s landmarks. While immersing herself in local culture and traditions, Patricia has also derived inspiration for many of her notable surrealistic works.

“The rich heritage of Evanston and its environs has become a passion and a true vocation. My architectural work together with my surrealistic creations is firmly tied to the magical realism of the Evanston/Skokie area,” says Patricia Mejía. “In this glorious Spring of 2015, I am inviting the viewer to dare to explore with me a new dimension of meanings and feelings; where possibilities of art multiply themselves and new dimensions begin to reveal their exciting potential.”
