DUIs, Theft, Wire Fraud: Wilmette Blotter

Theft

At 3 p.m. on Nov. 19 in the 900 block of Illinois Road a complainant reported a female, light skinned black or Hispanic, exited an older model vehicle and ran up to the residence and stole a white package. The female offender entered the vehicle, an older Japanese model vehicle, with partial plate “E23” and drove southbound on Illinois Road and then westbound on Lake Avenue. The homeowner identified that the items stolen were Christmas wreaths.

DUI

Scott M. Arey, 53, Glenview was stopped at Glenview and Skokie roads at 6 p.m. on Nov. 18 after someone called 911 stating there was a subject slumped over the wheel at the location. Officers located the subject, and found him to be intoxicated. The subject failed field sobriety tests, was arrested for DUI-alcohol without incident and transported to the Wilmette police station where he submitted to a Breathalyzer (BAC .150).

Matiana Garcia, 31, Addison was charged with a DUI at 1:51 a.m. on Nov. 18 in the 200 block of Vista Drive. A resident called in a suspicious vehicle that was parked with the engine running. Officers located a female subject in the driver seat with vomit outside the driver’s door. The driver was highly intoxicated andcould not follow basic commands. Wilmette firefighters transported her to Skokie Hospital where the driverrefused all chemical testing. The driver had no valid driver’s license. The subject was charged with DUI-alcohol and No Valid Driver’s License.

Wire Fraud

A victim reported that between Nov. 17 and Nov. 18 he found a vacation home to rent in Miami for $14,000 through AirBNB. He wired money on two separate occasions to who he thought was the listing agent. He then subsequently found the listing on the AirBNB site to have been removed. He was able to find the listing for the house through Zillow and contacted that listing agent and discovered that the home was not for rent. The real listing agent stated that was the third call he had received regarding something like this.
