WILMETTE, IL — Wilmette residents heading to the Fun and Fireworks event on Friday are being advised to keep an eye on the weather, with forecasts showing a possibility of thunderstorms during the gathering.
In a public safety notice, the Wilmette Police Department said safety remains the top concern for people attending or working at the event.
“Weather forecasts indicate there is a possibility of thunderstorms during tomorrow's event,” police said. “The safety of all attendees, participants, volunteers, and staff remains our highest priority.”

Police encouraged attendees to monitor weather conditions throughout the event and be ready to seek shelter if severe weather develops. Event officials will continue monitoring forecasts and will provide updates through the event's public address system, social media channels, and onsite staff.
If lightning or severe weather threatens the area, attendees should promptly follow instructions from event personnel. People may be directed to move to their vehicles or to designated shelter locations. Officials also warned attendees to avoid open areas, isolated trees, and metal structures during a thunderstorm.

“Schedule changes, temporary event suspensions, or a cancellation may be necessary depending on weather conditions.” The district added, “We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to ensure everyone's safety.”
