Farm-related Films to Take the Stage at Wilmette Public Library
One Book program features installment of "Mike at the Movies"
Farm-related films will be the focus when independent filmmaker, author, and film studies instructor Mike Smith presents an installment of his “Mike at the Movies” series on March 29 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wilmette Public Library Auditorium, 1242 Wilmette Avenue, Wilmette.
From F.W. Murnau’s “City Girl” in 1930 to Terrence Malick’s “Days of Heaven” in 1978, the selected film clips will show how the lives of farmers play out against the backdrop of the harvesting and reaping cycles, creating a rich and uniquely American cinematic tapestry.
The event is part of the Library’s One Book, Everybody Reads program, the Library’s annual reading and book discussion group, generously funded by Friends of the Wilmette Public Library. The 2015 program features Some Luck, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jane Smiley’s novel about an Iowa farm family from 1920 through the early 1950s.
