Gear For Flooded Texas Cops Donated By Wilmette, Kenilworth Police

Local cops organized collection drives to help out Houston-area law enforcement.

WILMETTE, IL — Officers from the Kenilworth and Wilmette police departments started began collection drives for dry police gear and other donations to their fellow first responders in a Texas town that has spent much of the 10 days drenched. After the spouse of one of the 60 sworn officers in Friendswood, Texas, put out the call for help to law enforcement websites, several local cops started getting donations together.

Both departments hoped to mail out the goods and gift cards to help out the Friendswood and Houston Police Officers' union this week, Wilmette Life reported:

Officers in Friendswood, Texas, a city of roughly 40,000 people on the outskirts of Houston, will be happy to get the boots, shoes, socks, tactical pants and other items heading their way, a spokeswoman for the city police department said Friday.

"Our officers have been working nonstop — some of them were wading in water up to their chests at times — and their boots and everything else get soaked, with no chance for anything to dry out before they have to go back out," Officer Lisa Price said Sept. 1. "Getting dry gear will be great."

In Kenilworth, the collection effort was organized by Officer Earl Tuckman, while in Wilmette, it was spearheaded by officers John Falk, Connor Cavanagh and James Pasquesi, the departments' chiefs told the paper.
