Kenilworth Blocks New Trier Traffic
School parents and staff object to northbound streets being closed near Joseph Sears School.

The village of Kenilworth has decided to prevent northbound traffic from certain roads leading to New Trier High School in Winnetka from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily in an effort to reduce congestion for students attending Joseph Sears School.
The closures affect Essex and Warwick roads at Kenilworth Ave and from Abbotsford to Ivy Court, according to the Winnetka Talk.
Not surprisingly, New Trier parents and staff have blasted the decision.

“Everyone feels this is inappropriate and is going to cause huge traffic problems,” parent Denise Akason said. “No one understands why this is happening.”

New Trier High School District 203 Superintendent Linda Yonke understands Kenilworth officials urge to protect the safety of Sears students, but said “if you fix a problem in one place, a problem pops up in another.”
“It doesn’t stop cars from coming, it just pushes them somewhere else,” she said.
The Talk reported major traffic jams were not created by the closures on Wednesday, although some young motorists were driving the roads anyway.
