New Trier Sued For Overlooking Former Cheerleader's Concussion

Athletic staff accused of not contacting proper medical personnel following injury in 2012.

A former New Trier High School cheerleader and her parents are suing the school district and athletic staff, among others, claiming proper medical personnel had not been contacted after she suffered a concussion during a practice in 2012.

According to the suit, Amanda Schoerke fell on her head on Sept. 24, 2012 while performing a flying stunt known as a “full down” - the Wilmette Life and others report.

“Once Plaintiff Amanda Schoerke arrived at the athletic trainer’s office, (she told the trainer) that she had fallen on her head during a flying stunt, that her head hurt, that she was having difficulties walking, that she had fallen into the trash can on her walk to the office, and that she was experiencing problems with her vision,” reads the suit, filed Tuesday in Cook County Circuit Court.

It also claims a trainer told Schoerke’s mother medical attention was needed, but Schoerke was taken to the emergency room the next day after suffering “severe amnesia.”
