New Trier Student Dance Company to Perform Original Works

NTHS students get opportunities to collaborate with professional choreographers as part of 'Kinesis' dance company.

NORTHFIELD, IL - Kinesis, a student dance company at New Trier High School, will present nine student-choreographed works this Thursday through Saturday. New Trier's Performing Arts Division created Kinesis to give an opportunity to dancers in their junior and senior years to choreograph and perform their own dances as well as opportunities to work together with professional choreographers.

"Artistic collaboration is a key component to the choreographic process,” said Christopher Rutt, co-artistic director of the company. "Not only do the students collaborate with their peers, they also have the unique opportunity to work with professional artists.” Later this year, the entire Kinesis company will perform an original work entitled “Triptych” by co-artistic director Johannah Wininsky and guest choreographer Christine Betsill, the school said.

This weekend, the ensemble will present nine pieces created by the 12 student choreographers at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2-3 and 2 p.m. Feb. 4 in the Cornog Auditorium at the Northfield Campus.
