Rogaine Stolen, Counterfeit Cash Pays For Pizza, $2 Bills Grabbed: Wilmette Crime Reports

WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those recently arrested. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges are often dropped or reduced. Everyone is innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

A resident of the 400 block of Maple Avenue reported on Sept. 19 that someone used an unauthorized credit card number three times to make fraudulent charges. An address in Rantoul, Illinois, was used as a shipping address for one of the purchases.

A resident in the 2000 block of Lake Avenue reported on Sept. 19 that someone used their credit card number to make unauthorized purchases totallying $2,566.10 at an Elmhurt Target store.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident in the 200 block of Central Park Avenue reported on Sept. 19 that she received a Bank of America Visa credit card for which she had never applied.

RETAIL THEFT

The manager of a Walgreens in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue reported that two men came into the store around 1:40 p.m. on Sept. 21 and were seen on surveillance video removing Rogaine from the shelf and putting merchandise in plastic shopping bags before setting off the security sensors as they left the store. One man was described as white and another was described as Hispanic, police did not say if either were bald.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A resident in the 2200 block of Birchwood Avenue reported that their wooden picket fence had been damaged twice over the last two weeks. In the second incident, which was reported to have occurred between Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. and Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m., caused the fence to become wobbly after a picket was pulled off of the fence. The resident told police the fence may need to be replaced if the incidents continue.

BURGLARY/THEFT

A resident in the 1100 block of Lake Avenue reported that during the overnight hours of Sept. 21-22, someone entered an unlocked detached garage and stole an orange Raleigh bicycle. In in alley in the same block, police recovered a bike that had been reported stolen earlier that day from the 1100 block of Wilmette Avenue.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A resident of the 800 block of LaCrosse Avenue reported that sometime between 2 p.m. on Sept. 20 and 5 p.m. on Sept. 21 someone broke the glass cover for a dual-head motion light on the front of their residence.

THEFT

A patron at the dog beach at Gillson Park reported that someone stole a bicycle between 3:45 p.m. and 4:29 p.m. on Sept. 23.

THEFT

The owner of a dry cleaner in the 900 block of Ridge Road reported that someone stole a stack of $2 bills worth about $60 from the register of the business as it was closing for the day around 5:15 p.m. on Sept. 23. The thief was described as white man about 20 years old with a thin build and wearing a baseball hat. The business owner followed the man outside and witnessed him getting in a white or tan car, which may have been an Infiniti, and driving away southbound in the west alley of Ridge Road toward Lake Avenue.

COUNTERFEIT PIZZA PAYMENT

A Domino's pizza delivery driver reported that they delivered a pizza to a man going by the name of Tim at 500 5th Street, when they were met outside by a man dressed in a suit at 10 p.m. on Sept. 23. The man paid for the pizza with two $20 bills that the driver realized were counterfeit after returning to the business.



ARRESTS

CANNABIS POSSESSION

A 20-year-old Wilmette man was arrested Sept. 19 at his home in the 700 block of Lavergne Avenue and charged with misdemeanor possession of cannabis. Police said they conducted an investigation into possible drug activity taking place at his house. During the investigation, officers followed a suspected drug dealer to Oakton Community College in Skokie and witnessed a drug transaction take place on campus. Police took the suspected dealer into custody and said he had 28 grams of cannabis in his possession.
