SENIOR HELPERS MOVES TO LARGER OFFICE IN NORTHBROOK

Additional Space Provides for Alzheimer’s Association Dementia Resource Center and Free Memory Screenings

Senior Helpers, the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) affiliate office for the entire Chicago area, is proud to announce it has moved to a larger office in Northbrook. "This will enable us to better serve those who have a loved one with Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s, other forms of dementia —and other challenges facing seniors," says Abbie Tucker, co-owner, M.A., CSA, qualified dementia care provider.

The new office, located at 950 Skokie Blvd., Suite 307, allows Senior Helpers to expand its dementia resource center for family members who want to know more about how to understand these diseases and help maximize the lives of all of these affected. It also has a training/education classroom for Senior Helpers professional caregivers.

"We offer a free award-winning DVD featuring nationally recognized dementia care expert Teepa Snow, OT. This presentation provides those who need help with how best to communicate with, plan productive activities and create the best physical environment for their loved one. The DVD also discusses the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias, and the early warning signs and care options," says Bob Tucker, a qualified dementia care provider and co-owner. "We also provide books, magazines and articles free of charge for people who want to learn more about the signs of these diseases, and how they can help their loved one."

The new office also has a room that will be used for free memory screenings. If you are concerned that you or your loved one may have a memory problem, this memory screening can help you decide whether you should see your doctor about this, or ....if it is simply normal aging.

"Alzheimer’s Disease is the sixth most common cause of death in the U.S. and the only one of the six still growing at an accelerated rate," explains Abbie Tucker. "At this time, there is no cure. Medications may work for a few years slowing down the disease, but they can’t reverse it. Many people don’t know where to turn for help. We’re proud to be a resource for the community."
