Teen Struck, Killed While Trying to Cross Edens Expressway

The 19-year-old man was running to go get help after running out of gas near Skokie Boulevard early today.

A teen whose SUV apparently ran out of gas on the Edens Expressway was struck and killed while he tried to cross the busy thoroughfare early Wednesday, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The 19-year-old man was struck by a van in the northbound lanes of I-94 near Skokie Boulevard in Wilmette at about 12:45 a.m., police told the Chicago Sun-Times. There were three other people in the SUV when it ran out of gas.

The teen, who is from Lansing, Mich., was running to get help and had crossed several lanes when he was struck, according to ABC 7 Chicago. He was taken to Northshore Evanston Hospital where he died.

No one else in the stalled car was hurt in the crash and the van driver is not expected to be cited, according to WGN TV. The northbound lanes of I-94 were closed for about four hours following the crash, CBS Chicago reports.
